My Dad - The Elvis Fan

My dad belonged to a group of like-minded Elvis fans and they met up regularly to sing and enjoy the King's songs. My dad's voice had always sounded so uncannily like the King's voice.

The last performance which I attended, I remember my dad did the song Suspicious Minds. This is my fav song by Elvis. Another song I love is Moody Blue. I was listening to my dad's ipod yesterday and added some songs I liked to the playlist. And when I checked my dad's previous playlists, I realised our taste in songs are so similar. I got my love of singing and music from my dad from a very young age. To me, music has no old and new. Good music transcends all ages and lasts forever. I don't care if people say I'm an old soul just because I love the classics.

I found these videos from youtube. Many thanks to the ones who posted them!

During this very difficult times from the day my dad went to hospital till the day of his funeral, his friends from the Elvis group have been incredibly supportive. I could really feel the love and sadness they felt for my family. Special thanks to Nelson for being such a huge support pillar for the family all this while. He refuses to let me call him Uncle Nelson so shall just call him my bro!

Thanks too to my dad's longtime friend, Ray. He spent the most time in hospital with my dad and on the day of the funeral, he even had to sacrifice sending my dad on his final journey coz we couldn't find anyone to stay behind at the wake. A friend like him is hard to come by indeed.

My dad had no relatives here in SG so it's was just my mum's relatives. Plenty of thanks to Uncle Peter, Aunt Maureen, Alvin and Wendy for helping so much during this time. We would have been at a loss without their help and support. They were as heartbroken as us but they organized everything for us so that we had time to grieve. My only duty was to look after my mum.

To us now, it doesn't matter that we have so few relatives. You can have a huge extended family but yet in times of trouble, nobody bothers. With a small close-knit extended family, all of us know we are there for each other no matter what happens. Family friends like Nelson and Raymond are considered part of the family to us now.

Heartfelt thanks to my honey too. He loves my parents like his own and he's so upset everytime he goes to a place that my dad has been with us before. He said everywhere we look, we see daddy's memories. He was so stressed and upset that on the night of my dad's funeral, he had difficulty breathing so I went with him to the A&E. Did all the checks to rule out dangerous stuff like heart problems and all, Doc told him to relax. I was too scared at that point, I already lost my dad, I don't wanna lose honey too. I couldn't have got through this ordeal without him by my side. He's a very good man and I do feel so very lucky to have him.

We're going to church tomorrow to pray for my dad. And we've been told by some church friends to came to the funeral, tonight my dad might come back and visit so honey and me are going to stay over at my mum's place. We hope we can see or feel his presence. So much to say to him but most of all, all we want to say is we love him very much and hope to meet him again in heaven someday!

Goodbye Daddy Dear

My daddy left us all on 2 June 2008.

To me, he's the best daddy in the world. I deeply regret that we had so little time with him but he is now with God, in a much better place than here, with no more pain and suffering for eternity.

Our loss, heaven's gain. A great guy, devoted to his family and friends. Daddy, rest in eternal peace. Alan and me will take care of Mummy so don't worry about her. You've have fought a good fight, even though you've lost, to us, you have been so strong and brave already.

Happy fathers' day to my daddy old.

My Poor Daddy....

This Fathers' Day, all I want ask is for my daddy to be conscious enough to hear me wish him a happy fathers' day.

Since 25 April, he has been in the hospital fighting for his life. We rushed him to the hospital as he was vomiting and feeling pain all over his body. He was scanned and x-rayed at the hospital and they found that there was free has in his stomach area. After the operation, the doctor said he found a huge gastric ulcer and had to remove part of the stomach and connect it back to the large intestines. It was a major op and the doctor said he's worried about healing due to the fact that my dad taking steroids previously for his throat ulcer.

Everytime we think he's gonna be fine soon, he gets some complication. One day in May, we even came so close to losing him. It's a good thing, the doctors and nurses in the hospital reacted so fast to his sudden and drastic drop in oxygen level. Due to the lack of oxygen, he suffered a cardiac arrest and has since then been in the ICU. He needs the ventilator to help me breathe, dialysis to help his kidneys function, medication for his weak heart and to fight the extremely stubborn infections.

All of us feel so sad for him, a healthy man whose only problem was hypertension. Now with all his vital organs weakened and he's so skinny and pale with so many tubes and medication in him. I think my dad must feel even worse, he's the one suffering all the pain now.

Everytime I visit him, I tell him he must get well soon and not give up. I want to celebrate so many more Fathers' days and birthdays with him.

God bless my dearest daddy!

Updates at Last...

It's been a while. Was busy with plenty, mainly the big office move which sapped a lot of my energy and time!

Finally started work in Novena beginning of this week. Still miss Raffles Place so very, very, very, very much. It just seems like a suburb here! Everything and everyone seems to move to a much slower clock. Even eating around here takes more time coz we have to wait longer for our food. Arrghhhh, not sure when I can get used to all this. The good thing is, yours truly has got a workstation with a view! Check this out...

While I was all stressed and tired out doing the packing for the move, went with Frances and Mag to Far East Square for lunch and discovered a tiny little shop selling hand-painted canvas shoes. We all went crazy and just bought so many, especially Mag...hehe. This is a pair I bought off the shelf, I call it my Mango Moo Moo shoes:

I ordered another pair quite similar in design but in a fuchsia colour!

As for updates on my furbabies, Flame and Ferris, I'll let their pictures paint all the words! They do keep me very busy. With all the feeding, cleaning, clearing, pampering, etc, I barely have time for myself.

Of course, I still make time for shopping. Just splurged on SKII skincare and a "few" MNG clothes. What can I say, packing and moving IS VERY STRESSFUL!

I've also been busy tuning in to American Idol Season 7! Absolutely love all the guys, favourites are David Cook, Michael Johns and the young'un David Archuleta! Also absolutely love Carly!! AI season is always an exciting time for me. I just never get sick of it. Tonight is Idol Gives Back! Gotta get home in time to watch it.

Bye now!

2008!!

It's another new year. 2008! Time for new resolutions but then again I never manage to keep to any of them.

Anyways, gonna have at least a few:

1. Exercise more regularly, have more activities in the outdoors (need a pair of rollerblades to start my falling-all-over-the-place again!). It's great to even just walk in the park with honey. Feels good to be in the open air. Great bonding time too for us, hehe! Gotta keep the romance alive and stay healthy at the same time.

2. Spend less on credit. Not sure if I can control but I will definitely try. Just have to keep reminding myself how I feel at the end of the month when I get my bills!

3. Spend less on unnecessary stuff! Already feel kinda guilty for indulging myself last December - gucci bag and Nintendo DS. But well, what's done cannot be undone and I really do like my new "toys"!

4. Walk my dog more often. I know she enjoys going out (which doggie doesn't?!) but I always get so lazy once I'm home that I just sit in front of the TV and freeze.

5. Clean my house more often so that when I do clean, there's not so much junk and dust, etc!

Ok, 5 is enough. Too much expectations, more disappointment! Haha!

Have a really, really good year ahead everyone. Stay active, happy, hopeful, in love, in touch, safe, etc etc! Wishing everyone a fantabulous year 2008!!!!!!

A sight that grosses me out...

http://www.animalsaustralia.org/issues/rodeos.php

Look at the webpage above. Doesn't it disgust you? Doesn't it make you ashamed to be humans? What right have we to torture these animals for the pleasure of some sick-in-the-head humans!

What if one day the roles of humans and animals are reversed? Do you think you'll enjoy being treated like these animals are being treated now?

Kudos to countries who have banned these sort of absolute unnecessary "sports"!
